Why our bodies need protein: Your body is absolutely AMAZING!!! God has designed your body to heal and repair given the right environment. You need Macro nutrients like Protein, Fat and Carbohydrates (Yes, carbohydrates....from fruits and veggies) to function properly and to help get you in that right environment to heal and repair. Today we are going to dive deep into one of the Macros, protein. When it comes to nutrients Protein is king and here is why :) Protein is made up of building blocks called amino acids, which are essential for nearly every function in your body. It’s one of the three main nutrients your body needs, alongside carbohydrates and fats. There are 20 different amino acids, 9 of which are essential, meaning your body can’t make them, so you must get them from food. Protein serves a broader range of functions than any other nutrient. They make up all the enzymes that drive our metabolism, many hormones like thyroxin that feeds your thyroid, insulin, and all your neurotransmitters that feed your brain. All made from protein. The photoreceptors of your eyes are made up of protein. It takes protein to heal and repair every single cell in your body. Where do we get protein? Animal sources: meat, fish, eggs, dairy Plant sources: beans, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds Just Some benefits of eating enough protein: 1. Keeps Blood Sugar Levels Stable Protein helps prevent blood sugar spikes by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates, making it beneficial for people managing diabetes or insulin resistance. To manage blood sugar spikes, eat your protein before you eat your carbohydrates. 2. Provides Tyrosine for the Thyroid The thyroid gland uses an amino acid called tyrosine to produce thyroid hormones T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine).
